Abstract (EN)

In this study, the classroom furniture that Turkish students within10-14 years-old range is assessed. It is aimed to understand whether using the same furniture over 4 year education period causes ergonomic discomfort and take necessary precautions if exists. For this purpose, Maltepe Primary School is selected to conduct the study, which is one of the largest schools in Çankaya district of city of Ankara under the control of Ministry of Education. 119 students are selected as sample and seven anthropometric measures are taken on each student. Fitness tests are performed between classroom furniture dimensions and anthropometric measures. Besides, a questionnaire is applied on the sample. Evaluations are made using SPSS software via statistical analyses and graphics. Statistical analyses are made by using hypothesis tests using χ^2 test. In the analyses, it is seen that students' age and stature effect on fitness to classroom furniture. In general, students have back pain and lumbago in the first place, headache and eye fatigue in the second order, and muscle and joint pain in the third ranking. Similarly, it is decided that desk types are effective on fitness to classroom furniture. Desk and chair types are proposed to suitable age and grade.
