Teen comedy genre in Turkish cinema: The case of the Çılgın Dersane

Various claasifications are seemed when it is looked at cinema and other arts. Cinema was firtsly thought as an only recreational vehicle when it emerged at first. Then, it was subjected to theoretical review together with making of the themed movie and genre concept has begun occurring with the ways of director, scenerio and shooting techniques. The movies were occured called as teen comedy all over the world and touch on difficulties that generally adolescents encounter in their daily life. The first and most important sample of this genre is Hollywood production "American Pie-1999" series. Many sequels were made by using similar scenarios after American Pie. Similar movies have also begun appearing in Turkish cinema in a short time as in the whole world. "Çılgın Dersane (2007)", "Sınav (2006)", and "Çılgın Kolej (2017)" left its mark on a period and take part in teen generation comedy cinema with theme of adolescent student. In this thesis, two series of "Çılgın Dersane" -"Çılgın Dersane Tatilde" and "Çılgın Dersane Kampta" samples- which are denoted as the best samples in Turkish Teen Comedy will be analyzed. In the thesis, genre movie analysis methods used by Zafer Özden basically were utilized to determine the generic structure and was used genre movie review as method. Also, teen comedy genre was tried to be expressed with specifications of cinematography ficton, music, venue/decor, costume/accessories and camera angels. In the first part of my thesis, the purpose and importance of the thesis, genre concept, review and genre movie review, literature research were made. In the second part, basic structures of genre movies, the history of cinema and comedy cinema, ideology, subject and relation between subject and cinema were analyzed. In the third part that findings take part, generic structures of "Çılgın Dersane Tatilde" and "Çılgın Dersane Kampta" movies which is the main part of the thesis were analyzed and solved by using basic items of genre movies. "Çılgın Dersane" taking part on periodic Turkish Comedy Cinema is viewed that appeals to young people by age and tackle various funny events used by the students in the cram school. It is seemed that it represents the genre in generic structure.
