Abstract (EN)

The effects of Necmettin Erbakan on Turkish Political Life has been reviewed in this study in terms of Islam and Islamism. Unlike the study of presence of Islam in political field in Turkey and the world, this study has reviewed Islam and Islamism through its sources and has assessed Necmettin Erbakan as a political leader taking Islam as reference in terms of Islamic terminology. Hence, this study tries to solve difficulty of understanding and designation caused by interpretation of a leader, who defines himself as Muslim in Turkish political life, with Western political terminology. In this content, in the Second Chapter of study, fistly political practices and concepts have been discussed for the period beginning with the prophet period of Islam and ending with the four caliphs of Islam, and later, instrumentalisation of Islam on political grounds have been assessed. The point of major conflict between both terms has been formed in terms of change shown with instrumental relation between Islam and politics. Third Chapter includes ?ideology? condition of Islam, a form of third entity gained by Islam on political grounds, and appearence of Islamism as an ideology in three different geography. Nevertheless the conceptualization of this study as the basis, the difference between Islamism and political Islam have been emphasized.Fourth Chapter of study has assessed how Islam and Islamism are positioned in political field in parallel with change in the world and with political, economical and social change experienced in Turkey. After 6th Chapter, presence of Necmettin Erbakan in Turkish politics, his political words and practice has been assessed in terms of Islamic terminology by attaching to transformation experienced in Turkey. Thus, it is tried to reveal that Necmettin Erbakan must be defined as ?a leader who used political methods of Islam instead of political Islamist?, that political and economical liberalization created by 24th January decisions has quality that does not make change in ideology of National Opinion, however, draws National Opinion parties inside system, and finally that in practice, the presence of secular system is strengthened, in addition to that presence of Islam in Turkish politics contradicts with secular system at rhetorical level.
