Her Gün Newspaper in Turkish political life 1947-1980

Her Gün Newspaper, which started its publication life on November 12, 1947, was founded by Mehmet Faruk Gürtunca, who was also the editorial writer of the newspaper. Although the newspaper was not officially a spokesperson for a group when it was founded, it has always made nationalist discourses. In this respect, it has been regarded as a nationalist newspaper since its establishment, but after it changed hand in 1976, it offially became the spokesperson of a natioanlist group. This situation continued until the military coup of September 12, 1980. The publication of the newspaper ended with the coup. In addition, Her Gün, which has been in favor of the continuation of democracy by the people since its publication, welcomed the results of the 1950 elections with enthusiasm and reflected this in its publications. Therefore the newspaper, which has followed a Demokrat Party line since its establishment, can be accepted as a Demokrat Party publication even though it is not its official spokesperson. With the collapse of the Demokrat Party government in the coup in 1960 and the National Unity Committee taking over the administration, the newspaper preffered to remain silent. However, he supperted the transition of the administration to civilians. In this study, together with the political developments in the mentioned process, foreing policy and minority issues are also mentioned and the attitude of the newspaper on these issues is given. Our study aims to examine the intellectual structure of the newspaper in the developments from 1947 to the 1980 military intervention. Especially after 1976, the political attitude of the newspaper, which became the officail organ of a nationalist group, will be the main subject of analysis.
