Abstract (EN)
In Turkey, only right-wing parties have come to power alone since 1950. This thesis examines the processes by which right-wing parties came to power alone after 1980, focusing on party vision and election campaigns. The aim of this thesis is to reveal the successes of the Motherland Party (ANAP) and the Justice and Development Party (AK Party), both right-wing parties in Turkey, in coming to power alone, and to examine their processes of coming to power in terms of party vision and election campaigns. This thesis seeks to answer the question, "What are the effects of party vision and election campaigns on the processes of ANAP and AK Party coming to power alone?" Election campaigns conducted to influence public opinion and come to power are very important. Therefore, it is important to examine ANAP's and AK Party's rise to sole power and the subsequent developments in terms of party vision and election campaigns. A case study, one of the qualitative research designs, was conducted in the thesis. In this regard, multidimensional data collection techniques were used and document analysis was performed. This thesis covers the period from the establishment of ANAP and its rise to power on November 6, 1983, to the period when it lost power in the October 20, 1991 elections, as well as the period from the AK Party's rise to power on November 3, 2002, to the period leading up to the June 24, 2018 Presidential and General Elections. Therefore, the period after 2018 is not included in the thesis. The establishment of ANAP and the AK Party and their ideological identities are described, and their election campaigns during the periods examined are discussed in detail. It is determined that the AK Party emerged victorious from the elections thanks to its strong party discipline, effective election campaigns, and the vision it presented, compared to ANAP.
