Özet (EN)
National Salvation Party in Turkish Political History (1972-1981) In the 1970s, the National Salvation Party had a significant role in Turkish politics. Necmettin Erbakan started politics in 1969, and then Erbakan and his associates founded the National Order Party in 1970. But later, the National Order Party was closed due to the 1971 Military Memorandum. After repeated and adamant requests for the formation of a party, the National Salvation Party was founded on October 11, 1972. The party was established with Necmettin Erbakan's assistance and competed in the 1973 elections, in the end, it achieved a victorious result in these elections. Following the elections, coalition negotiations started, and an agreement was reached in the Republican People's Party and the National Salvation Party Coalition on January 26, 1974. Some important occasions like the Cyprus Peace Operation, the general amnesty, and the cultivation of poppies occurred during this period. However, with the resignation of Bülent Ecevit on September 18, 1974, the coalition came to an end. After a long-lasting government crisis, on March 31, 1975, the First Nationalist Front, which included the Justice Party, the National Salvation Party, the Nationalist Movement Party and the Republican Reliance Party, was formed. During the First Nationalist Front period, issues such as America's embargo on Turkey, the Aegean and Cyprus problem, economic depressions and the increase of anarchy came to the fore. In the early elections held on June 5, 1977, while the number of votes of the AP and CHP increased, the number of votes of the MSP decreased. Bülent Ecevit could not get a vote of confidence even though he formed a government after the 1977 election. On July 21st, 1977, the Second Nationalist Front, made up of the Justice Party, the National Salvation Party, and the Nationalist Movement Party, was founded. But on December 31, 1977, the government was overthrown by interpellation due to its inability to resolve the issues in the country. After the government was overthrown, on January 5, 1978, Bülent Ecevit established the government. After the 1979 election, this time the minority government of Demirel was established and remained in office until the Military Coup of September 12. This government was supported by the National Salvation Party unwillingly. During this period, the January 24 Decisions, the presidential election, economic depressions, and chaos were all on the agenda. Upon Israel's designation of Jerusalem as its capital in 1980, the National Salvation Party conducted a Jerusalem Meeting in Konya on September 6, 1980. Due to the actions during this demonstration, a lawsuit was filed, and six days later, the Turkish Armed Forces seized power. Necmettin Erbakan and a few of his National Salvation Party deputies were put on trial and taken into custody. Their lawsuits continued until 1985. Besides, on October 16, 1981, the National Salvation Party and other parties were disbanded. Consequently, with its congresses, speeches, and projects in line with the National Vision, the National Salvation Party demonstrated its presence in Turkish politics and served as an inspiration to the succeeding parties.
