Analyses on the sources of productivity in Turkish agriculture

This thesis consists of two essays. The aim of the first research is to reveal the impact of changes in the production shares of provinces on yields for each agricultural product between the years 2004 and 2022, utilizing provincial-level crop production data for Turkey. To achieve this goal, variations in the cultivated area, production quantity, and yields of agricultural products in different provinces over the years have been examined on the maps and using Shift Share Analysis the effects of changes in location of cultivation of agricultural products on yields have been elucidated. In the second article, analyses have been conducted at the level of barley and wheat using the Stochastic Frontier Analysis approach to explore the spill-over effects of contract farming on productivity. The findings have demonstrated that cultivating contract sugar beet has increased efficiency in barley and wheat yields.
