Abstract (EN)
Although disability is a life-long condition that needs social support, it is faced with obscurity and social exclusion in society. It is emphasized that the media needs a great support to correct these conditions. Television plays an important role in our daily lives and has a high potential to reach different segments of society. However, in some cases, it is seen that disadvantaged groups are not represented correctly and fairly and are presented with wrong stereotypes. In this context, realism, empathy and social awareness are necessary for the correct representation of people with disabilities. Television series should accurately convey the daily lives, experiences and emotional journeys of people with disabilities. Disability should be considered not only as a defect or disability, but also as a factor affecting the lives of individuals with disabilities. The diversity and different experiences of disabled people should not be forgotten, and the stories of individuals with different types of disabilities should also be included. Thus, viewers can be presented with a more realistic perspective on the difficulties, achievements and daily struggles faced by people with disabilities in their lives. At the same time, universal themes in the lives of people with disabilities should be emphasized and opportunities should be provided for them to tell their own stories. Accurate representation of people with disabilities can contribute to reducing false beliefs, prejudices and discrimination about disability in society. Since television series have the power to reach a wide audience, they have a great potential to draw attention to the difficulties experienced by disabled people and to create social awareness through these platforms. The aim of this study is to examine the accurate and fair representation of people with disabilities by focusing on the importance of the media in the representation of disadvantaged groups and their relationship with society. As a result of this study is to ensure that a more inclusive and understanding approach is encouraged by underlining the importance of the media's accurate representation of disadvantaged groups and their relationship with society. Emphasizing the real experiences and potentials in the lives of people with disabilities can help reduce negative perceptions of disability in society and increase awareness.
