SUMMARYRegard to In Vitro Fertiliziation Treatment in Turkish SocietyThe purpose of this study was to investigate the turkish people?s regard to InVitro Fertilizasyon (IVF) treatment. Performed by Akdeniz University public healthstudents, this survey was conducted in two different socioeconomic status quarters inAntalya, Turkey during April 2005.18 years and older were surveyed. A total of four hundred persons wereenrolled in this survey. Questionaires were answered completely.The mean age was 37.5 years. Among all the participitants 61,20 %hadinformation about IVF while 6.80 %regard IVF treatment as something unknown. Byasking about infertility and IVF treatment among their relatives and acquaintances,16 %had heard IVF treatment. Among the survey respondents 4.50 %have fertilityproblems. If the participant's situation is thought to warrant IVF treatment only 83,38%accepted. Instead of IVF treatment 22.30 %advocate adoption option. The negativeeffect of childlessness on couples?marriage was thought to be 52,50 %. 44,10%believes that IVF should be kept secret between couples and doctor and 27,80%suggested that children born through IVF might not be told the fact. Allparticipants were asked about their attitudes to embryo freezing and oocyte andsperm donation. 59,80 %had positive outlook for embryo freezing and 32,20%accepted oocyte donation while sperm donation was only accepted in 20,50 %.Additionally, reduction of multiple pregnancies was accepted in 75,80 %percent.Turkish people accept IVF treatment, they have enough information aboutit. When experienced IVF treatment most couples could accept it easily.
