A research on usage levels of vocabulary instruction methods and tecniques by Turkish teachers (The sample of Afyonkarahisar)

This study was performed with the aim of determine the Turkish teachers' usage levels of methods and techniques that takes place in literature, in Turkish teaching programmes and in Turkish books. The research was performed upon 109 Turkish teachers, participating the Turkish Teachers Elaborated Coterie Meeting on February 10-14 2014, in Afyonkarahisar. Data collection tool, which created for research, consist of 45 items. For each item, "I don't know, I know but I don't use and I use" options were given. After applied the data collection tool, obtained datas were analyzed these variables: Teachers' professional seniority, scheming habits, type of alma mater, publishing house of using books, teaching grades. Obtained datas were performed descriptive statics, frequency and percentage values were calculated. According to the obtained findings, teachers' knowing and using levels of methods/techniques in terms of all the variables depend on method/ techniques' partaking in books or programme. Teachers mostly know and use method/techniques in programs and books. Methods/techniques, requiring more time and effort, are omitted even though some teachers know. Besides, method/techniques' mostly whether used at vocabulary instruction may influence teachers' preferences. Key words: Turkish teachers, word, word teaching, word teaching methods and techniques.
