An evaluation on the errors of the inflectional morphemes in the written expressions of the students learning Turkish as a foreign language

The aim of this study is to determine errors of the inflectional morphemes in the written expressions of the students who learn Turkish as a foreign language. The present study is case study that aims to describe what the errors of the inflectional morphemes in the written expressions of the C1 level students who learn Turkish as a foreign language and what their opinions are about the inflectional morphemes. In accordance with the case study design, the errors have been identified in the inflectional morphemes in the written expressions of 16 students at the C1 level of the foreign language proficiency levels set out in the European Union Common European Framework of Reference for Languages in the study. While forming the study group, several criteria have been determined. The students who have C1 level language certificate and a written exam paper have participated in the study. The exam papers in the fall and spring semesters of these students are examined through document analysis, and the errors of the inflectional morphemes are determined. The demographic information form collected from the students is used to demonstrate the characteristics of the study group. Besides, the interviews of 13 students are analysed descriptively. As a result, it is observed that there is a concordance between students'use of inflectional morphemes and the number of these morphemes in their expressions, and 25.95 % of these errors are due to the misuse of the inflectional morphemes, 53% of these errors are due to the absence of these morphemes, and 21.03% of these errors are due to the redundant use of these morphemes; there is a parallelism between students'opinions and the use of the inflectional morphemes in their written expressions; the students who have stated that they did not have difficulty in learning the inflectional morphemes, have correctly used them at high level ( over 84%).
