The teacher behaviours and properties affecting the efficiency of learning Turkish as a foreign language

The aim of this research is to determine teacher behaviors and characteristics that affect the efficiency of learning Turkish as a foreign language. The universe of this qualitative study with case study method consists of foreign students who learn Turkish at the Turkish teaching centers of official universities in the 2021 - 2022 academic year, and instructors who teach Turkish as a foreign language. The participants of the study consisted of fifty students (selected from at least A2 level students learning Turkish in a Turkish teaching center) and twenty two instructors (working in a Turkish teaching center) determined by the easily accessible situation sampling method, which is one of the purposeful sampling methods from this universe. Data from students were collected by focus group interview method, and from faculty members by individual interview method. The data of the study were analyzed by content analysis method. At the end of the study, teacher behaviors and characteristics that affect the efficiency of learning Turkish as a foreign language were determined. The results obtained from the research indicate that the instructor should be the planner and guide of the teaching, be well- trained professionally and prepare positive learning environments for the students to learn Turkish well. The research was carried out in two stages. In the first stage, students questions about the thesis topic were asked to foreign students and answers were received. In the second stage, the questions of the instructors prepared about the thesis subject were asked to the instructors giving education in this field and answers were obtained. Data in the study; It was collected from the students with the focus group interview technique and interview questions to be prepared by the researcher, and from the instructors with the individual interview technique and interview questions to be prepared by the researcher.
