The concept of basin freedom in the context of Hürriyet Newspaper as a main media example in Turkey

The first condition to be able to talk about freedom of communication in a country is the opportunity to freely reach and express all kinds of news, thoughts and opinions in that country. The possibility of accessing information, collecting and explaining the information obtained is possible with the existence of the freedom of the press. Freedom of the press is the freedom to express ideas freely through the press, independent of the interference of any power center. Although the arrival of the printing press in our country was delayed by about two hundred and fifty years; Press activities started in a period close to the emergence of the first newspaper in the world. Press activity, which continued in the Ottoman and Republican periods, was frequently interrupted by political-military coups and interventions, which negatively affected the development of the Turkish press. Examining and analyzing the post-Republican development and independence of journalism in Turkey; It is important in terms of showing the contributions of the Turkish press to universal journalism and its place in the world press. In the study, the development of the Turkish press in the context of freedom of the press, the emergence of the mainstream media, the change/transformation in the ownership structure of the media and the reflections of the relationship between media patronage and governments on the freedom of the press will be examined. The historical development of Hürriyet newspaper, which started to be published with the transition to democracy, is also the history of press freedom in Turkey. Literature review method will be used in data collection for the study. The data obtained from the Hürriyet archive will be analyzed and interpreted.
