The future of Customs Union during the relations of Turkish European Union

With the globalization, many countries in the world have aimed to grow and develop economically, they also aimed to protect themselves from the existing competition in the market and develop their trade with the collaboration with the other countries in the world. Many countries that came together for this purpose created a new concept by creating economic zones through economic integration. Economic integration refers to the broad markets created to eliminate the barriers that restrict the free movement of goods between countries. The customs union, which is one form of economic integration, thanks to Turkey's application for full membership of the European Union has become more important today. In addition, it has emerged that its positive and negative aspects on economy should be discussed and updated. The process leading Turkey to European Union began with Turkey's application in 1959 for the European Community. It became official with the Ankara Agreement, which entered into force in 1964. After the signing of the Customs Union in 1996, the economic integration phase was initiated. In this study, economic integration and customs union, which is one of the integration types are defined and the effects of customs union theory on economies are examined. Then, on the basis of the customs union it has described the realization process of the Customs Union with Turkey-EU relations. In the final section, the impacts of Customs Union on Turkish economy are examined in the context of Turkey EU relations; it is mentioned that the positive-negative impacts of the Customs Union, its losses and gains and its future and predictions.
