Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to explain the role of global mindset on the internationalization of Turkish SMEs. In the view of this purpose, what the properties of Turkish SMEs which have global mindset are, and the internationalisation mechanisms of the smes which own these properties are studied. The study is designed as qualitative and exploratory to exhibit what the conditions that form the global mindset of Turkish SMEs are. Questions prepared parallel to the purpose of the study are directed to 19 bio technology SMEs by interview method. Acquired data is analysed by MAXQDA analysis code. Postulates are formed based on the results of the analysis. In the light of formed postulates, the points emphasized related to internationalisation of the SMEs of this study are as follows: R & D intensive Turkish SMEs have a global mentality and the most obvious indication of having global mentality is the desire to provide internationalization and prestige. In addition to the desire to provide prestige as a motivation for internationalization, the desire to contribute to the country's economy also came to the fore. The elements that constitute the global mentality for R & D intensive Turkish SMEs are cognitive characteristics rather than corporate environment and market conditions. Due to the low institutional development, the institutional environment in R & D intensive Turkish SMEs has a negative role in the formation of the global mindset. The impact of business development activities on the internationalization rates and levels of R & D intensive Turkish SMEs is higher than the impact of R & D activities. Obstacles on the internationalization performances of R & D intensive Turkish SMEs are rather barriers to being new.
