Investigation of burnout levels of speech and language therapists working in turkey

The aim of this study is to determine the burnout levels of Speech and Language Therapists working in Turkey and to investigate the factors affecting this. In this context, the 11-item Personal Information Form and Maslach Burnout Inventory data filled out by a total of 167 participants, 138 women and 29 men, were analyzed. SPSS 22.0 statistical program was used for analysis; Frequency analyzes were used to determine descriptive features, mean and standard deviation statistics were used to examine the inventory, and Kurtois and Skewness values were examined to determine whether the variables were normally distributed. Pearson correlation analyzes for the relationships between the dimensions that determine the participants' scale levels; Independent sample t test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and post-hoc (Tukey, LSD) analyzes were used to examine the differences at the inventory level according to the descriptive characteristics of the participants. It was concluded that gender, age, education level, working environment, years of experience, monthly income level and the thought of changing profession affected the burnout level at a statistically significant level. When the burnout average scores of the Speech and Language Therapists participating in the study were examined, it was seen that they had medium level burnout in the Emotional Exhaustion subscale. It is important to raise awareness of the burnout levels of Speech and Language Therapists and to take precautions to prevent this situation from occurring or reaching a higher level.
