A research on the aspects of translation competences given in Turkish universities' English language teaching departments' translation lessons

During the globalization of the world, translation training has gained its value in particular worksectors, education is one of these areas. With the process of Turkey's adaptation to The European Union, Erasmus+ projects have increased English Language teachers' communication with their European colleagues. In schools, Bureaucratic procedures of these projects increased usage of English Language Teachers'( ELT)Translational competencies. Accelerating needs to ELT Teachers for translation of European Projects paperwork; causes necessity of researching on the education of Translation which is given in English Language Teaching Departments of Turkey for this Language's teachers. For improving translational competencies of Teachers; a variety of courses are offered to students to acquire translation competencies. After checking out these translation courses given in Turkish universities' ELT Department; it can be easily seen that there are so many neglected aspects of translation in these courses such as neglecting of cultural competencies, linguistic competencies, and most of the sub-competencies of translation. In this study, three state universities'ELT departments and three private universities' ELT departments' translation lessons will be analyzed with the content analysis method. These lessons will be analyzed with some sub-competences, too. As a result, the concept of culture in translation is one of the important aspects of translation. In the end; an examination of how many aspects of translation are given in Turkish universities' ELT Department builds the necessity of this study. The study aims to identify the lacking competencies in the ELT departments in Turkey and to propose a new content for the translation courses in these department.
