Abstract (EN)

The conditions in which people find themselves can lead to the necessity to migrate. The Syrian mass migration caused by the civil war in the Syrian Arab Republic is an example of this. Mass migration can have a positive or negative impact on host countries. Within the framework of the Copenhagen School, with the securitization approach, an issue can be treated as a threat through discourse, and with the de-securitization approach, an issue can be taken out of the scope of threat through discourse. As a tool that emerged as a result of the need to communicate, the media has the function of disseminating the issues it deals with to large masses. In addition, the media is an actor that can securitize and de-securitize the issues it deals with. In this thesis, it is revealed how Syrians in the Republic of Turkey were covered in Turkish media organs from December 8, 2024, when the Bashar al-Assad regime was overthrown, until March 31, 2025. The media outlets included in the scope of the analysis are Sözcü, Cumhuriyet, Yeni Şafak, Sabah, Diken and Bianet. The news articles and columns published on the websites of the relevant media organs between the specified dates were scanned by typing the keyword "Syrian" in the search field. It has been revealed whether the news and opinion columns of the relevant media organs securitize or de-securitize Syrians in the Republic of Turkey. In addition, the news articles and opinion columns were analyzed within the scope of Copenhagen School's security sectors. Keywords: Syrian, Republic of Türkiye, Securitisation, De-securitisation, Media
