An analysis of mobile health application interface designs in turkey from the perspective of users aged 65 and over

Health is one of the most important issues for societies, and access to accurate health information and health services is crucial for public health. Throughout history, health communication has been supported by various communication tools of the time. Today, society's interest in health issues has increased, and new media tools that facilitate access to this information are rapidly developing. In the 20th century, topics such as sports, nutrition, and preventive medicine for healthy living have become increasingly widespread on various communication platforms around the world. It is important for individuals to have the necessary information about health in order to cope with disease risks. In addition, mobile health applications are frequently used in many areas such as keeping patient records, communicating with healthcare personnel, making necessary reminders, and disease monitoring, and communication with the target audience on these issues is provided through mobile interfaces. Providing detailed mobile software with easy and understandable interface designs facilitates access to information for all users. However, not all user groups perceive the interfaces in the same way. The aim of this study is to utilize the advantages of visual communication design to facilitate the use of mobile health applications and to propose appropriate interface design solutions for users aged 65 and over. In line with this objective, mobile health applications in Turkey were analyzed using content analysis methods, a design control guideline proposal compiled from academic literature for users aged 65 and older was presented, three existing health applications were examined according to this guideline, and a new mobile health application design proposal for users aged 65 and older was presented. The aim is to support this user group, which faces many age-related disadvantages, in the context of mobile health communication and to provide resources on the subject to mobile interface designers and software developers.
