Examination of post graduate education theses in the field of education supervision in Turkey (1990-2017)

The aim of this study was to reveal the general state of the field, by analyzing dissertations in the field of educational supervision in Turkey, in terms of different variables. It is thought that this study can give information about the prevalence and depth of the subject, can present a general view of the field examined, and may be a pioneer doing new research. Qualitative research method was employed in the study. In the study, 150 post-graduate education dissertations, which are accessed from Higher Education Council Publication and Documentation Department Thesis Center Database, were analyzed by content analysis. Findings show that between 1990 and 2017, most dissertations on educational supervision were written in 2011. Dissertations on educational supervision were conducted in 43 different universities and most dissertations were produced in Yeditepe University (21). In the PhD level, most dissertations were produced in Fırat University (3). In the study, the most frequent topic was perception and opinions of education stakeholders. The large proportion of the dissertations examined in the study was carried out by using quantitative method and survey research design. The number of studies with qualitative methods is quite low and the number of studies using mixed methods seems to be inadequate. Surveys and scales were used as data collection tools in approximately 68% of the studies, and the most commonly used data analysis method was t-test. As a result of the research, it is revealed that the field needs original studies for experimental researches and theory development.
