Abstract (EN)

In this study, where economic growth and employment relations are addressed in Turkey, the relationship between economic growth and employment has been tested for Turkey. In this context, economic growth, employment and unemployment were first conceptually explained, followed by the course of change in these three variables in the world and in Turkey. Later, the relationship between growth and employment was evaluated theoretically and empirically. In the study, relationship between economic growth and employment in the period 2005:01-2018:03 was examined using the ARDL (Autoregressive Distributed Lag) approach and the Toda-Yamamoto causality test. According to the results of the analysis, co-integration between economic growth and employment was found. According to the results of Toda-Yamamoto causality, two way and negative relationship between economic growth and employment was determined. Accordingly, the increase in economic growth has been concluded that reduces employment. In order to increase employment, it is believed that labour-intensive technology should be encouraged, regulations in the education system and qualifed workforce must be ensured.
