Abstract (EN)
In this study, one of the most frequently discussed topics in the economics literature—whether there is a relationship between inflation and economic growth, and if so, in which direction—was examined using the case of Turkey. The study covers the years 1980–2022. Data for both variables were obtained from the World Bank database, using GDP for economic growth and CPI for inflation. İnitially, to determine whether each variable was stationary, the Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) and Phillips-Perron (PP) unit root tests were applied, and non-stationary variables were then rendered stationary. Subsequently, in order to identify the type of causality relationship between the variables, the data were analyzed using Vector Autoregression (VAR) and Toda-Yamamoto causality tests. Both tests indicate a one-way causality running from growth to inflation.
