Social policies applied to war veterans and martyrs families in Turkey: The sample of Yalova Province

Countries in the world, putting various social policies into practice for relatives of war veterans and martyrs who loses their lives in wars and terrorist actions, has been trying to minimize the effects of their relevant problems. In this perspective, the main purpose of such social policies, also implemented in our country, is to provide and maintain ease and welfare of the self-sacrificing citizens who loses their healths or lives for the existence of their country and those of their relatives in the frame of honourable conditions. With this study that gives voice to social policies put into practice for relatives of martyrs and war veterans which is not commonly touched on academically, more attention will be attracted to develop new social policies. It will also help relatives of martyrs and war veterans to be informed generally. Moreover, recommedations relevant to social policies that need to be developed will be determined after identifiying their happiness and satisfaction level to such policies. For this purpose, this study will throw a light on subjects and results of social policies that needs to be developed and approaches to social policies implemented to relatives of martyrs and war veterans who lives in Yalova. In this perspective, eight war veterans and twelve relatives of martyrs who live in the city of Yalova has been interviewed and their views and expectations concerning to implemented social policies has been taken. As the conclusion of this interviews, it has been reached that their appreciation to social policies impelemented by our state is at a high level. Moreover, since they do not have any financial problem, they are thankful to our state for the interest and faithfulness shown to them.
