Structure of income distribution in Turkey and methods of poverty reduction (1980-2017 periods)

Income inequality and poverty, in Turkey as well as all over the world are also among the important problems to be solved. The issue of income distribution in Turkey, which is always on the agenda has been an area that is being debated. The distribution of income in a country can give an idea of the level of development of that country and the social and administrative structure of the society. The primary task of the social state is to ensure a fair distribution of income. The poverty fact is as old as human history. In general terms, poverty is the inability of people to meet their needs. This inability is not due to the inadequacy of the person but due to the distribution of global resources. In other words, it is due to the inequality of income distribution. Poverty is not only the problem of individuals, but also problem of the countries to the point that it could be accepted as a global problem. For this reason, governments are developing policies and practices related to poverty reduction through public resources or nongovernmental organizations. In this study, the structure of income distribution and poverty alleviation methods in Turkey between the years 1980-2017 are discussed. Although the results of the study are not sufficient, it is seen that different policies and practices have been implemented in order to combat poverty in our country. As a result of the research, it is planned to extend the scope, amount and reimbursement periods of microcredit supports, and to focus on policies and applications with regard to eliminating inequalities among the regional income distribution.
