Abstract (EN)

Household savings constitute an important source of financing investments in developing countries (EMs). Household savings are a driver of higher economic growth. EMs are mostly dependent on foreign savings in the form of capital or an international indebtedness to finance their local investment needs. The main purpose of this study is to determine the factors affecting household savings, which is an important factor in economic progress for developing countries like our country, and to provide policy recommendations to decision makers regarding the findings and to guide them in determining their actions. In the study, logistic regression analysis was performed in order to determine the effect of demographic and economic factors on savings. In the thesis study, 2019 data of the Household Budget Survey of the Turkish Statistical Institute were used. As a result of the analysis, the most important demographic variables among the factors affecting household savings are age, gender and education level; Among the economic variables, it has been determined that there is annual disposable income, property and vehicle ownership. The difference of the findings from other studies in the literature is that guiding ideas are presented to the decision makers about the behavior of household heads regarding their savings preferences in terms of determining their policies and activities.
