Abstract (EN)
Water resources are becoming scarce due to climate change and anthropogenic activities and require urgent precaution. The first step to protect our water resources is to manage them carefully and in a sustainable way. In order to achieve this, the water sources must be monitored, mapped and evaluated regularly. It may be challenging to keep the national water maps updated by traditional methods. Thanks to the latest developments in the field of remote sensing area, most of the obstacles have been fixed. In this study, to create the map of Turkey's National inner waters, the remote sensing data integrated into Google Earth Engine (GEE) were used to develop an application. For this purpose, the recently developed Multi-Band Water Index (MBWI), was used over Sentinel-2 satellite images at GEE to all Türkiye. The results showed that; GEE is a promising application with large amounts of satellite data and can accurately extract water bodies on a national scale, can be useful for a variety of administrative applications that require up-to-date water information, and the developed application can be used for spatiotemporal analysis across different fields of study.
