Turkey - Britain relations (1929-1939)

In this study, Turkey-England relations were restructured between 1929 and 1939 and turned from cooperation to alliance, and this situation underlies an important milestone in terms of both Turkish foreign policy and bilateral relations. The study was initiated in 1929 because it was thought that the diplomatic maneuver of President Mustafa Kemal [Atatürk] Pasha was the beginning of relations between the two countries in order to carry the British embassy to Ankara. The Tripartite Alliance Treaty, signed in 1939, shows that Turkey's foreign policy is in a new orientation and implies a new beginning. These developments between these two events have been examined in diplomatic, political, military, economic and social titles. In this process, not only the Republican archive documents and the press of the period but also the British documents which were published and also the other works have been used. Thus findings obtained from all these publications have been provided thematic and chronological explanation of the topic.
