Abstract (EN)
Gender equality and women's participation in the workforce are pivotal for achieving sustainable development and societal well-being. Nonetheless, gender disparities in employment persist in Turkey, underscoring the urgency for a comprehensive examination of women's employment within the gender context. This study delves into the multifaceted determinants of women's labor force participation, encompassing educational attainment, socio-economic standing, marital status, age, and parental responsibilities, alongside intricate socio-cultural influences. To facilitate women's increased presence in the labor market, strategic interventions must be implemented to ameliorate the factors that impede their employment opportunities. This research meticulously explores the global and Turkish landscape of women's employment, tracing its historical evolution, highlighting existing barriers, and elucidating strategies aimed at bolstering women's workforce engagement. Drawing upon empirical data gathered through on-the-ground investigations in Batman, this study critically evaluates localized policies, initiatives, and efforts dedicated to enhancing women's employment prospects. The investigation encompasses a comprehensive array of stakeholders, including the Batman Governorship, Batman Municipality, İŞKUR (Turkish Employment Agency), Batman Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services, Dicle Development Agency, and KOSGEB (Small and Medium Enterprises Development Organization of Turkey). By analyzing these diverse actors and their roles, this research sheds light on the intricate interplay between policies, societal dynamics, and institutional actions shaping women's employment in Batman.
