The place of women's employment in economic growth in Turkey: Econometric analysis of the relationship between women's educational status and their participation in employment

Abstract (EN)
In a globalized world, women's employment is of great importance in the realization of economic development and growth of countries. Women in Turkey can contribute to the country's economy only if they are educated and employed. In this study, in order to analyze the place of employed women in economic growth according to the educational situation in Turkey, the concepts of employment, women's employment were first defined and the employment structure of Turkey was addressed. Afterwards, the historical process and development of women's employment in the world and in Turkey were discussed in detail. Finally, the relationship between women employed according to their educational status and economic growth has been studied theoretically and empirically. In the study, Turkish economy 2003:Q1-2018:Q4 economic growth for the period, primary school and pre-graduate female employment rate, female employment rate using data from the graduate school or faculty ARDL bounding test approach and Toda-Yamamoto causality analysis was applied. As a result of empirical analysis, it was concluded that there is a long-term relationship between women employed according to their educational status and economic growth variable. As a result of the analysis applied to determine the causality relationship between variables, a one-way and positive causality relationship was determined towards women employed from economic growth according to primary and pre-graduation status and women employed according to graduation status of college or faculty. Overall the findings of the econometric analysis, causing women to join the work force; especially to a family that spread to all sections of society "discrimination" of disease should be prevented and should be given to gender equality and women employment it can be concluded that their participation in trained manpower must be enhanced.
