Abstract (EN)

The thoughts on village and peasentaism are affected by the changes in social and technological areas. The two important change points for village and peasentaism have been the Industrial Revolution and the 1929 Great Depression. Urbanization and industrialization reached to the peak point in the 20th century as a result of the changing conditions. The West which wanted to stop the excessive urbanization and industrialization of workforce, turned to the villages and villagers as a solution. Especially capitalist countries were affected by current of peasentaism in the 20th century. In Turkey, the roots of peasantaism can be found in the Ottoman State. Although, in the past the interest level in village and peasantaism has changed based on different concerns, it has received the most attention during the Single Party era. Atatürk constantly praised the villages and villagers after the War of Independence. Peasantaism became more effective after some economical, political and social changes and it was included into the party program. Villagers are dealt with by establishing Halkevleri and peasantaism branches and the Village Institutes were founded after various activities in order to transform villages through education.
