BİM implementation road map for architectural smes in Turkey

BIM (Building Information Modeling) is a 3D model-based technology that includes everything related to the construction project in an integrated information management system throughout the project lifecycle. BIM; it is a radically different emerging approach to the traditional methods of design, construction and planning management. BIM has been extensively researched and accepted by many countries worldwide in the construction industry, with a key role in the field of project development, design, documentation, planning and scheduling in the areas of quality and efficiency. This new system promises to further facilitate all activities involved in building development and construction. This research is located in Turkey and BIM'E Architecture firms wishing to submit a proposal to change the direction of how they can follow a strategy in this process and this was done with the aim to improve the transition process. In order to facilitate the transition to BIM implementation and to overcome the difficulties encountered in this process, the status of the existing BIM perception was investigated with the survey conducted for the professionals in the Turkish construction industry. By analyzing the results of the survey, the barriers to BIM applications and the facilitators supporting this process were determined. The results of BIM architectural firm located in Turkey'in the transition of the biggest obstacles in the way: lack of BIM education and training, lack of presentation, showed a lack of customer demand. The most important factors that facilitate the process of the transition of architectural companies to BIM are: to provide training to personnel on new process and workflow, to initiate an information process to increase the awareness of the company on new software and technology, to create standards and guidelines for the Turkish construction sector, to provide support to learners to offer courses to students - to place them as electives in universities - to make the use of BIM in projects mandatory. Studies have shown that firms also lack guidance on how architectural practices should implement BIM (ARK, 2012). This lack of guidance is one of the reasons why architectural companies cannot accept the transition to BIM. Further information is needed on how to implement BIM technology and processes. In addition, the need for guidance will decrease over time with the increase in the number of pilot projects that can be examined, designed with the BIM process. In order to describe the problems that can be experienced with the implementation of the transition to BIM, the action research conducted in John McCall Architects, similar to the process in the UK, was examined and the outline of the suggestion roadmap was determined in accordance with the results. This included initiating, participating, and observing the process in architectural firms wishing to transition to BIM. Both internal and external benefits of the sample adaptation process have been considered. The information obtained with the findings of this BIM application research was recorded and reviewed. This process of transition to BIM process of reviewing and analyzing the architecture firm located in Turkey has become a roadmap and recommendations were documented. The BIM implementation framework reviewed presents the main headings of the transition stages presented by this thesis, while the current situation and BIM knowledge analysis obtained by the survey conducted to the professors represent the primary contribution.
