Abstract (EN)
In this study, the comic strips published in Gırgır Magazine under the direction of Oğuz Aral between 1972 and 1982 were examined in terms of basic design elements. Comic art, which emerged in the late 19th century in America and Europe and gradually became an integral part of popular culture, began to become prominent in Turkey in the second half of the 20th century, with imported comics garnering significant interest among young Turkish readers. By the late 1950s, local talents began producing original comics, contributing to the development of comic culture in Turkey. Humor magazines, one of the mediums in which comics were published, became an important type of media in Turkey featuring social criticism and humor. The comics published in these humor magazines effectively presented humorous stories and helped the magazines build a loyal readership. During the 1970s, as Turkish humor magazines experienced their golden age, comics intertwined with these magazines, contributing to each other's rise. The emergence of Gırgır magazine brought comic art and humor journalism even closer and provided an opportunity for many talented artists, some of whom were also its readers, to develop. The design style of the comics in the magazine played a significant role in Gırgır's success, encouraging other humor magazines and setting a precedent in this field. The noteworthy design features of the magazine were also fundamental elements that established its brand image.
