Abstract (EN)
One of the most significant elements of nations' economic situations is energy. The shortage of existent energy resources in the country causes a foreign dependent policy in terms of energy. Being dominant in energy market, fossil fuel dependency has been increasing gradually. There is no denying the fact that fossil fuels are harmful in that they are both costly and damaging for environment. Our country does not have sufficient fossil fuel resources. However, renewable energy potential is high. The active use of renewable energy resources with the help of advanced technology may reduce dependency on foreign markets and trade deficit and it can even enable the county to reach the position of selling energy to foreign countries. The important factors of using renewable energy sources are that they neither harm to the nature, human-beings and environment or lose its sustainability in its own cycle. In this study, the types of energy resources in Turkey, the contributions of sustainable energy use to the country and recommendations regarding their use have been examined.
