Abstract (EN)

A total of 202 international students participated in this study, which aimed to compare the metaphors created by international students living in Turkey and learning Turkish about communication in their native language and in Turkish. It was carried out by random sampling from international students studying at various TÖMER and DİLMERs, and the data were collected by face-to-face interviews with a semi-structured interview form prepared by the researcher. The collected data were analyzed using the phenomenological method and content analysis technique in accordance with qualitative research techniques. Reliability and validity calculations were examined by another Turkish field expert and the difference between the two researchers was calculated. The number of valid metaphors created by these students about communication in the mother tongue is 165. As a result of the classification of these metaphors according to their positive and negative status, it was determined that they were mostly positive, when classified according to their structure, they were mostly natural events, and when classified according to their functions, they were found to be mostly positive. The number of valid metaphors created by the participants about communication in Turkey Turkish is 159.
