Refugees in internationl law in the light of Turkish case

This study aims to answer the question of how compatible are Turkish Refugee Law regulations and practices from past to present with the sources of International Refugee Law. The main research question is answered through the contextualization of terminological aspects that are pertained to Turkish law with the immigration terminology used in international sources and presentation of the birth of the "refugee" concept, its development, and resulting legal status in international law. In the study, under the international sources, guiding European Union legislation for the creation of the Law no 6458 titled Foreigners and International Protection Law and the historical effects of the European Common Asylum System to the Turkish Refugee Law and its legal development are examined. In addition to the international regulations considered within the framework of this study, in the last section this study evaluates the Readmission Agreements, which commenced with the legal efforts made to the existing Turkish asylum system parallel to the process of adaptation to the European Union Legislation, specifically through the "Readmission Agreements" entered into force on 1 October 2014 between Turkey and the EU and which have an important place in the common asylum policy of the European Union Member States.
