Abstract (EN)

During the period when the Seljuk state of Turkey was actually under Mongol rule, the principalities that continued to exist under the Seljuks in the peripheral regions declared their independence in time in their areas of sovereignty. As a result, they interacted with the Seljuk state in political, economic, social and cultural fields. Politically, after the Seljuk state came under Mongol rule, the principalities were constantly trying to revolt because the Seljuk state did not do anything against the Mongol rule. An example of this is the Karamanids' attempt to seize power by placing Siyavuş, a false prince, on the throne of Konya. There were many such incidents in this period. Of course, we cannot say that these events were only aimed at saving Anatolia from Mongol oppression. These principalities also wanted to expand their sphere of influence and statehood. After the collapse of the Seljuk state, they continued with their economic, military and social policies. For example, the Seljuks' establishment of Konya as an important trading city contributed greatly to the Karamanids' economy, and they continued their activities to maintain this situation. Again, the alum trade was an important source of income during the Seljuk period. The Germiyanoğulları also continued their trade by producing alum in the areas they controlled. One of the most important areas of difference is the use of language and the production of artefacts. While Arabic and Persian were the main languages used in the Seljuk Empire, Turkish was given due importance during the Principalities and many works were translated and produced in Turkish. This was not only limited to the works, but also the inscriptions on the endowments were written in Turkish. Socially, each principality worked to ensure the welfare of the people living in the regions under their rule, and they donated many mosques, madrasas, inns, bridges, etc. in the regions. They even repaired the damaged structures left over from the Seljuk Empire. For example, the Balıklı Mosque in Kütahya was repaired by the Germiyanoğulları in the style of the Principality. There are many such examples.
