Abstract (EN)
This study titled "Study of Popular Culture and Literature Magazines in Recent Times in Turkey as a Consumption Meta with Regards to Culture Industry" has addressed popular culture and literature magazines which have been popular especially from 2013, on the basis of "culture industry" which is created by Frankfurt School with reference to consumption habits. It has been tried to show that the consumption habits that changed and transformed through postmodernism converted magazines to merely commodities, and that they has differed greatly from the magazines published between 1930 and 1960 in terms of both design and content having the characteristics culture industry and being adorned with postmodern elements. Since it was infeasible to analyze the diversified number of literature magazines, only three of the best seller ones "Ot", "Kafa" and "Kafkaokur" which carry the key features of postmodern era have been chosen and studied by content analysis method. During the analysis, both magazines and their social media accounts have been taken into consideration. In order to facilitate the comparison between the eras and reveal the transformation more clearly, the magazines "Varlık", "Hisar" and "Yeditepe" which were popular in the post-Republic period, are included in the study. As a result of the comparisons and content analysis, it has been concluded that these magazines, one of the most read periodical publications of their time are quite different in terms of principle, content, style and design from the recent magazines which display the characteristics of industrial society, compromising on quality, standardizing and pumping consumption. The results of the analysis has showed that the process of postmodernism going along with over-industrialization which has changed the needs of the individual, consumption habits of the societies and commoditized anything including culture have also transformed the magazines into something to be consumed faster and more.
