Mehmet Fuat Koprulu in Turkey sufism historiography methodology and approach

There are two main objectives in the selection of this study: they are able to identify the initial stages of Sufi history studies and explain the key role of the Fuat Köprülü methodology at this stage. Fuat Köprülü was chosen as the subject due to being the founding father of modern period Sufi studies. Thus, a broad framework of historical and political narrative of Sufi historiography initiated by Köprülü was tried to be drawn. In the first chapter, the Ottoman historiography from the classical period XIX. century changes will be examined. In the second part, the names affecting the historiography and ideological perspective of Fuat Köprülü and Annales school will be briefly mentioned. As for the fourth chapter, Fuat Köprülü's three important followers, Abdülbaki Gölpınarlı, Ahmet Yaşar Ocak and Irene Melikoff, the influence of Köprülü on them and the authors' Köprülü criticisms will be explained. In the last part, criticism from the West for Fuat Köprülü's works will be shown within the framework of the trio of Devin DeWeese, Markus Dressler and Ahmet Karamustafa. Finally, this study is a modest field study that does not claim to include all the works of Fuat Köprülü
