Transition to the multi-party system in Turkey; A discourse: "Turkish Workers"

TRANSITION TO THE MULTI-PARTY SYSTEM IN TURKEY: A DISCOURSE; "TURKISH WORKERS" In 1946 with an amendment to the Community Regulation, syndication right was given to the proletariate at the period of one-party rule, besides a democratic step was taken for transition to a multi-party system. However, the state traditionally wanted to regulate the work life to not industrialization and organization right leading to the class struggle as in West. In 23rd November 1946 the state had begun to publish newspaper called "Turkish Workers" just before closing the opponent syndicates and newspapers which were established after the law amendment. In this study it has been assumed that political power had tried to structure the new developing proletariate and its movement in the line of the dominant ideology through "Turkish Workers" and also reproduced the social power relations through the discourses of the texts which have been analysed. In this context how the ideologies, cultural values and social power relations have been formed and reproduced through the discourses have been tried to tested with Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis. According to the results of the research it has been detected that "Turkish Workers" didn't act impartial in the selection of the news and contributed to the dominant ideology of the period with its presentation and distribution of the news.
