Inflectional suffixes in the common Turkish and Iraqi Turkmen Turkish Language

This study has been prepared with a view to evaluating the structure and functions of inflectional suffixes used in the language of the Kirkuk and Tuzhurmatu Iraqi Turkmen. With the introduction of the common Turkish as the language of instruction in schools and courses in Iraq in 2003 along with the publication of books printed in the common Turkish language, the Iraqi Turkmen language that is used in print has fallen into disuse. As such it is necessary to record the language characteristics of the Iraqi Turkmen Turkish in regard to linguistics. With this in mind, the inflectional suffixes that are written in the Kirkuk and Tuzhurmatu dialects of the Iraqi Turkmen Turkish language have been determined. These suffixes have been put to use in past historical periods and have also been used in the Oghuz group dialect. In the study, the inflectional suffixes have been classified according to their nouns and verbs and its function has been determined according to the word to which it has been added to. All the suffixes have been defined by the words that have suffixes in the sample sentences. At the end of this thesis there is a table that has been prepared using a synchronic and comparative method of the suffixes used in other Oghuz dialects as compared to those used in the Iraqi Turkmen Turkish language.
