The effect of R&D and innovation policies applied in Turkey on the private sector: The case of Bursa automotive industry

In the last 200 years of human history, commercial actors, as well as political and economic actors, have been affected by the tremendous developments and changes that started with the Industrial Revolution. In order to survive in today's dizzying competitive environment, companies need to constantly update their production processes, services and products. Although all branches of industry have been affected by this intense competitive environment, the automotive sector is undoubtedly one of the sectors with the most fierce competition. The automotive industry has an important place in our country's economy. In the first part of our study, which aims to reveal the effects of the R&D and innovation policies implemented in Turkey between the years 20015-2020 on the businesses operating in the automotive sector in Bursa, basic concepts such as R&D and innovation are discussed. In the second part, a brief history of the R&D and innovation policies implemented in our country is mentioned, and the R&D and Innovation policies and supports implemented by the authorized institutions today are given. The third and last part of the study is the application part, and the results of the survey conducted with 101 companies operating in the automotive sector in Bursa are included. According to the findings we have obtained in the research, it has been revealed that the policies to be implemented for businesses are of great importance in order to increase our competitive power on a global scale.
