The revision of achillea L. (Asteraceae)genus grown in Turkey

This study comprises revision of the Achillea L. (Asteraceae) species grow in Turkey.Related literatures were obtained and species numbers with distribution of genus in Turkeywere established.The specimens existent in herbaria in Turkey and collected from field studies wereexamined in this study. Totally 1500 specimens were examined as the research materials. 950specimens of these were collected between the years of 2002-2005 by us. Color photos andslides of species were taken in the habitats. According to the studies on the specimens theintraspecific and interspecific variations have been established. A species separation key wereprepared by used most stable characters. The morphological illustrations and flower detailswere drawn by author.The type specimens or photographs of some species were obtained from B, E, G, JE, K,LD, P, W, WU herbaria.Before this research, 42 Achillea species (48 taxa) of which is 20 endemic were known inTurkey. At the end of the study a new variety was described as A. phyrgia Boiss. & Balansavar. chelikii T.Arabacı (Sect. Santolinoideae). A. boissieri Hausskn. ex Boiss. was treated assynonym of A. teretifolia Willd. previously. The detailed morphological investigationsshowed that A. boissieri should be separated species. Furthermore, the specimens described asA. cartileginae Ledeb. were included as a synonym of A. salicifolia Besser. A. pannonicaScheele was accepted at species level. A. fraasii Sch.Bip. var. troiana Aschers. & Heilmerlwas increased at subspecies categories as A. fraasii Sch.Bip subsp. troiana (Aschers. &Heilmerl) T.Arabacı.At the end of this study, 44 Achillea species (50 taxa) grown in Turkey have beenestablished and 21 species (28 taxa) are endemic to Turkey.ANAHTAR KELİMELER: Asteraceae, Achillea, Revision.
