Analysis of the factors for the time period for re-starting tobacco usage after quitting, by cox regression

Tobacco usage is not only an important public health problem, but also is considered as a global health problem. Tobacco use is seen as a threat to the health of the individual, leading to diseases and premature deaths by shortening the normal life span of people. The aim of this study is to identify the determinants of individuals in Turkey aged 15 and above re-starting tobacco usage after quitting and to determine the demographic and socioeconomic factors affecting the period between quitting and restarting tobacco usage by Cox Regression method which is an important regression model for survival analysis. In the research, the cross sectional data obtained from the "Global Adult Tobacco Survey" survey conducted by TUIK in 2012 was used. According to predicted model results, variables related to gender, educational status, house rules, increase of tax on tobacco products, age and wealth level indicators have been found to be effective on the risk of re-using tobacco.
