Çeviri stratejileri ve yabancı dil olarak Almancaöğretimindeki çeviri stratejilerinin rolü: AnadoluÜniversitesi Turizm Fakültesi örneğinde ampirik bir araştırma

This study aims to improve foreign language teaching for students in the Tourism Guidance programme at Anadolu University's Department of Tourism through written translation activities. The research explores this approach over a 10-week period during the spring semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. The sample consists of ten senior students from the Tourism Guidance department who volunteered for the study. The small sample size was chosen to allow for detailed observations and intensive work on the translation activities. The participants are senior students specializing in Tourism Guidance. Seven different translation strategies were used in the research. Each strategy was explained to the students before they started their translation tasks. Data were collected through video recordings, open-ended questionnaires, student diaries, and researcher notes, capturing students' views, experiences, and observations throughout the process. The data were analysed using thematic analysis with the help of the MAXQDA software programme. The findings show that students experienced different levels of difficulty with the various translation strategies. They found the Transfer, Reformulation, and Equivalence strategies challenging due to cultural and linguistic differences. However, they found the Borrowing, Calque, Literal Translation, and Adaptation strategies easier to use. These differences were linked to the students' diverse language skills, as highlighted by their statements under different thematic categories. This research aims to fill an important gap in the literature by demonstrating the role of translation strategies in teaching German as a foreign language, providing valuable insights for foreign language teaching.
