A qualitative research on the problems of experienced by paid teachers

Paid teachers are temporary teachers who are employed in exchange for additional courses in schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. This qualitative research study examines the problems experienced by paid teachers who are temporarily employed within the Ministry of National Education and reflections of these problems on the educational process. The subject of this research are the conditions of appointment of paid teachers, their salaries, job satisfaction, the threshold to leave the profession, and the problems they faced in or out of class. The population of the study consist of paid teachers who work in the Siverek, Sanliurfa. Paid teachers who were selected with easily accessible sampling methods constituted sample of the study. Semi-structured interview form and personal information form prepared by the researcher were used as data collection tools in the study. Interviews with each paid teacher were made for 20 minutes and they were recorded. Interviews were transferred to electronic media by deciphering method. The data obtained from the interviews were analyzed by using content analysis method. Themes and sub-themes were created for each question by coding technique. In the direction of the data obtained from teachers, inferences were made by giving examples about the problems experienced by paid teachers related to each sub-theme and the effects of these problems on the educational environment. As a result of the research, it was determined that paid teachers have low job satisfaction and they tended quit their profession for any alternative. Besides, it was detected that the attitudes of parents, students and administrators were different than attitudes of permanent teachers and also paid teachers were seen to be weak in terms of teacher qualifications. It was determined that affected them both financially and psychologically due to paid teachers to receive far fewer wages than permanent teachers. It was determined that there were lack of knowledge of paid teachers in assessment and evaluation, field information, classroom management and they need help in these subjects.
