A comparative analysis of the teams who won and lost the matches in the UEFA Europe League in Terms of some parameters

The aim of this study is to analyze comparatively the teams that left the 2018-2019 UEFA Europe League matches with wins and losses in terms of some parameters. 48 teams participated in the tournament and a total of 205 competitions were played in the tournament. 157 competitions that resulted in both victories and losses were evaluated. In addition, 48 competitions that ended in a draw were not evaluated. In the tournament, any team took part in the winning or the losing group, and each competition was analyzed independently. As a result of 157 competitions, teams were divided into two independent groups, "A" for the winners and "B" for the losers, and these groups were compared according to technical and tactical parameters. Research data are taken from the official website of UEFA (www.uefa.com). The data that obtained were recorded in the SPSS 22 package program and the Shapiro - Wilk test was applied to reveal whether the data showed normal distribution and it was determined that the data didn't show normal distribution. To determine the difference between two independent groups, the Mann Whitney U test was applied, and the average and standard deviation values were calculated. Significance value was agreed as p<0.05. As a result, to reveal the success criteria in the tournament, the results were obtained by comparing the groups according to the parameters. According to the results of the research, a statistically significant difference was found between the two groups in terms of the first half, second half and total number of goals scored, accurate passes, passing accuracy percentages, total number of shots and shots on target, accurate crosses, possessions and number of corners (p<0.05). No statistically significant difference was found between the two groups in terms of the total cross number, tackle percentages, the number of yellow cards and red cards, offside and fouls (p>0.05).
