Abstract (EN)
Nigerian politics has been full of many anomalies and turmoil due to past and present events of the country's leader. With this study, we aimed to analyze how effective women's participation in politics was by focusing on the 2019 elections in Nigeria. The key finding of the study was that it reiterated that the unequal approach to governance has led to the under-representation of women and their under-representation in policy-making corridors, which also emerged in the 2019 Elections. At the same time, some basic reasons such as economic inequality, socio-cultural prejudices, insufficient or poor education and especially the great obstacles for women not to participate in elections and the high cost of election campaigns cause low participation of women in politics. Although some policies have been introduced to help mainstream gender equality, the number of women participating in Nigerian politics is very low. This shows that Nigerian women are still some way away from balancing gender equality and equality with men in politics. It is imperative that initiatives be taken to increase women's participation and gains in Nigerian politics now or in the near future and to fulfill the requirements of democracy. In our thesis study, we tried to analyze the 2019 National Assembly Elections in Nigeria in terms of women's participation. Women's political participation in Nigeria was examined from a historical perspective and the factors affecting participation were emphasized. Reasons have been given as to why women cannot exist in politics. After evaluating the 2019 election results, solution suggestions are included for women to take more part in politics in Nigeria.
