Turkey's role in international police cooperation and the problems witnessed in cooperation process

Throughout the history, the concept of security has fundamental importance for individuals, society and the state. The methods to provide security vary depending on the types of threat elements which form the security perception. In this study basically, the necessity of international police cooperation and Turkey's role in this collaboration are explored within the framework of Realist and Neo-realist Security Approaches. The foremost International Cooperation Organisations were selected and their facilities were subjected and studied. Because of the scarcity of articles in the subject of International Police Cooperation in Turkey, mostly foreign articless, e-books and official web sites of institutions were used. As as result of this study, it's observed that the procces of globalization has not only effected states but also the criminal organizations by offering global opportunities. In this global structure, it is only possible to provide security through International Police Cooperations. It is concluded that Turkey has a major role for ensuring regional and global security with it's geopolitical position, integration efforts with Europe, its support through international traing programmes and international intelligence sharing. In this study, answers for the questions of how changes in the elements that affect states and society reflected in security approaches, the need for police cooperation, how the international police cooperation has shaped and how Turkish National Police has contributed to this collaboration are sought.
