Educational messages in Ulviye Alpay's children's books

Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this research is to review Ulviye Alpay's Junior Books in terms of educational messages and how they were delivered to the recipients. Qualitative analysis methods such as document review and the content analysis were used. With this aim 13 junior books of Ulviye Alpay were reviewed. First the events, when and where they are occurred, characters, language and expression were elaborated. Then the educational messages were classified by their presentation ways in two categorizes as "direct" and "indirect" messages (Küçük, 2005:69), by their goals and contents in five categorizes as "messages supporting self-improvement", "messages supporting social development", "messages supporting moral improvement", "messages supporting national tought" and " "messages supporting universal thought". Totally 149 messages were found which have importance on going into the secret world of children and have also positive effects on children's abilities to improve creative thinking, imaginativeness, socialization, moral senses and internalization of human values. Finally some suggestions were proposed to families, teachers and the related writers.
