With the advancement of big data technologies, data mining has emerged as a significant data processing technique. Among these techniques, artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the fastest-growing. The primary aim of this study is to examine why big data and AI technologies are important for libraries, what functions they can provide effectiveness, and what problems are encountered or may be encountered in this context, thereby raising awareness on this issue. Understanding these technologies is crucial, as they hold significant potential for the future of the librarianship profession. The level of awareness and consciousness of big data and AI among students at the Department of Information and Records Management, especially those who will enter the workforce, determines the profession's future. Therefore, another objective of this study is to determine the students' awareness of the Department of Information and Records Management in this context. Additionally, the study aims to identify the current shortcomings of university libraries that do not use AI and big data technologies and to create awareness of why they should benefit from them. The study employs a survey administered to students of the Department of Information and Records Management at Kastamonu University. Based on the survey analysis, the conclusion presents a comprehensive outline of the identified problems and proposed solutions.
